Early Life & Roots
Prof. Dr. M. A. Alim is known as one of the best urology doctors in Bangladesh. He was born and raised in Saidpur, Nilphamari, and completed his early education at Cantonment Public School & College, Saidpur.
Growing up in a community with limited access to specialized healthcare inspired him to dedicate his career to helping patients through accessible consultations, advanced treatments, and free medical camps across Bangladesh.
Academic Foundation
Prof. Dr. M. A. Alim completed his MBBS at Dhaka Medical College between 1989 and 1995, passing his final examination in January 1996. His passion for Urology began early because it combined surgical precision with life-changing patient outcomes.
He completed his MS in Urology from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University and continued building expertise in minimally invasive and advanced urological surgery.
Clinical Journey & Career Growth
Dr. M. A. Alim began his career in 2007 as a Medical Officer in the Department of Urology at Dhaka Medical College. After serving as Registrar, he joined Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital in 2011 as Professor & Head of the Department of Urology.
During the next fifteen years, he successfully treated over 10,000+ patients while mentoring future urologists. His dedication earned him recognition as one of the most experienced urologists in Sylhet.
He currently serves as Professor & Head of the Department of Urology at the National Institute of Kidney Diseases & Urology (NIKDU), Dhaka, specializing in laser kidney stone surgery, prostate disorders, urinary diseases, kidney cancer surgery, sexual dysfunction, and complex urological procedures.
Advanced Training & Fellowships
Dr. Alim has trained at some of the most renowned Urology centres in the world, each fellowship adding specialized skills to his practice. At the Sindh Institute of Urology & Transplantation in Karachi, he studied the management of Training in Kidney transplant surgery. At Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai, he trained in Uro-Oncology, while his time at R.G. Stone Hospital in Mumbai deepened his expertise in advanced operations for kidney stone management – PCNL / mini PCNL. In Germany, at Caritas Hospital in Regensburg, he focused on Laparoscopic Urology techniques to reduce patients’ recovery and hospital stay time.
At the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, he expanded his skills in Laparoscopic & Robotic Urology. Then he trained in Laser Urology at the Raheja Hospital & Dandekar Hospital, Mumbai, India. Later training at Medanta – The Medicity in Delhi, India sharpened his Robotic Urology skills further, while a year at New York Medical College in the United States gave him exposure to some of the most advanced Robotic & Laparoscopic Urology techniques used internationally. Each of these experiences has shaped how he approaches surgery today, favouring methods that are precise, minimally invasive, & focused on faster patient recovery.

Prof Dr M. A. Alim believes that the best kidney & urological care depends on listening carefully before making any decision. He takes time to explain a diagnosis in plain language so patients understand their condition, rather than simply following instructions they do not fully grasp, and focuses on treatments that are proven to work. This approach, built on over 20 years of clinical experience, aims to give patients confidence in their care while keeping their comfort & long-term wellbeing at the centre of every decision.
Teaching & Mentorship
Beyond his clinical work, Dr. M. A. Alim has spent much of his career training medical students & young urologists. He sees this as one of his most important responsibilities, since the doctors he trains will go on to treat countless patients throughout their careers. His teaching covers both the technical aspects of surgery & the values he considers essential to good medical practice, including patience, honesty, & respect for every patient regardless of their background.
Community Service
As a urology specialist in Bangladesh, Dr. Alim regularly organizes & participates in free urology camps. These camps allow him to reach patients who might not otherwise have access to specialist care, offering consultations & guidance at no cost. For Dr. M. A. Alim, this work is a direct continuation of the values he grew up with, a reminder that medicine at its best should be available to everyone, not only those who can easily afford it.
